ACCABBANNA explores the relationships between folk traditions and jazz improvisation. The group was formed after the meeting of two musicians: Palermo singer Olivia Sellerio, whose performances combined the sounds of jazz and Italian folk music, and Pietro Leveratto, a Genoese double-bass player with thirty years' experience, whose inimitable arrangements complement the wonderful poetry of Olivia's singing.

ACCABBANNA, in the process of working through Sicilian musical tradition, introduces us to music closely identified with its origins.

The sound of jazz becomes a demonstration of intensity, arising from the arrangement, instrumental sound, melody and lyric. The group uses old melodies, keeping the sound and spirit of the original music.

In this way, while preserving the memory of their ancestors, ACCABBANNA personifies a Sicily in proud advance.
