Berlin Voices

One of the best German vocal quartets, ‘Berlin Voices’, toured Baku, Sheki and Sumgayit, as part of the week of German Culture in Azerbaijan, from 27th February – 1st March. The concerts were met with storms of applause. “Berlin Voices” conquered the hearts of Azerbaijani audiences for the second time, with their professional and beautifully melodic range of voices.

“Berlin Voices”
Four jazz singers joined together in a group which is a tribute to music – four wonderful voices combine to produce one sound. This is what the press had to say: “A new sound in a fresh breath” (Zitty) or “We expect much of this quartet from Berlin” (Berliner Morgenpost).

Berlin Voices

Their music is always in four parts. The singers often argue and discuss to obtain the best sound. This creative tension is how “Berlin Voices” operate. The quartet has a very good musical foundation: Esther Kaiser, Marc Secara and Kristofer Benn, in 1998, worked in the vocal section of the Federal Jazz Orchestra (BuJazzO) under the leadership of Peter Herbolzheimer.

The other member of the current “Berlin Voices”, Sarah Kaiser, study vocals in the Jazz Department of HFM “Hanns Eisler”, under the direction of Prof. Judy Niemack (USA) and Prof. Jiggs Wigham (USA). The “Berlin Voices” group was formed in 2000. Since then it has been heard in small jazz clubs as well as in the most prestigious concert halls in Germany. The quartet has performed with success in the Munich Philharmonia, the “Gewandhaus” in Leipzig, CCH1 in Hamburg and the “Friedrichstadtpalast” in Berlin. Even with large orchestras such as the HR Big Band led by Jorg Achim Keller, “Berlin Voices” showed their quality and tickets for their concerts have always sold.

Many foreign tours were undertaken. In 2005, at the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the quartet performed a long way from Germany for the first time - in Azerbaijan. The concert was a success and served to strengthen cultural relations between the two countries.

In autumn 2006, these four virtuosos recorded the album, ‘Strangers in the Night’, to the music of Bert Kaempfert as soloist. Finally, in 2007, “Berlin Voices” first solo album, “States of Mind”, was released, dedicated to the work of Billy Joel. This is how the group announced itself. For the future, the conquering of new lands and successful performances lie in wait for them.
